Synagogue hosting gala to honour longtime Barrie businessman

'Stephen (Sperling) was instrumental in building our synagogue,' says Am Shalom Congregation official

Am Shalom Synagogue is preparing to celebrate one of its own.

The south-end Barrie congregation is holding a gala dinner next month in honour of well-known Barrie businessman Stephen Sperling.

Over the last 50 years, the synagogue says Sperling, who is the president of Aerarium Group, has become Barrie’s largest property developers and has continued to be an active leader in the community.

“Stephen was instrumental in building our synagogue as well as having been a past-president and the current treasurer of our board of directors,” noted Am Shalom Congregation administrator Jodie Shron.

“Stephen is a successful businessman who has always given back to Barrie in so many ways including as past president of the Kiwanis Club and the Barrie Chamber of Commerce," she added. "He is a very community-minded individual, always willing to help others and go the extra mile and we are very excited to be able to honour him with this gala.”

The event, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5 from 6-10 p.m. at Liberty North, will be filled with “music, fun and good food” in support of Am Shalom Congregation.
