UPDATE (Friday, 4:46 p.m.): Barrie police say all lanes have reopened on Bayfield Street.

A broken hydro pole has closed northbound lanes on Bayfield Street in Barrie.

City police were called to Bayfield, between Ferris Lane and Cundles Road West, just after 8 a.m., Friday.

“The pole snapped and … there is a portion of it that is literally hanging in the air,” said Peter Leon, communications co-ordinator with Barrie police. “By all indication, the damage would be suggestive of the pole being struck by a vehicle of some sort.”

Bayfield’s northbound lanes, between Ferris and Cundles West, are expected to remain closed until 7 p.m., Friday, for the pole repair.

Less than 20 Alectra customers in the area have been affected by the broken hydro pole.

“If people can avoid that area, obviously take a different route, that would be in their best interests,” Leon said.
