NEWS RELEASE
THE SONGWRITER SERIES MUSIC FESTIVAL
*************************
Multi-platinum artist Serena Ryder, pop-rock duo The Darcys, and Polaris Prize winner Haviah Mighty are just three of the music artists who will perform during The Songwriter Series Virtual Music Festival.

The free stream of the festival will be available on Friday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. on YouTube Live. Fans can join the free stream by going to The Songwriter Series website: songwriterseries.ca.

This special broadcast will be hosted by Tom Power, the award-winning broadcaster who hosts the national arts and entertainment program q on CBC.  This multi-genre music festival is a carefully curated mix of singer/songwriters from various genres (soul, pop, hip hop, rap, blues, roots, and folk).

A diverse number of music artists have agreed to perform including: Serena Ryder, The Darcys, Kaia Kater, Haviah Mighty, Shan Vincent de Paul, Lydia Persaud, Shawnee, B.Knox, and Sam Johnston

The Songwriter Series is based on the guitar-pull format and has been presented for more than five years in The Temple Lounge at Donaleigh’s in downtown Barrie. Music fans travel from all over central Ontario to attend the series.

To date more than 170 Canadian artists have performed on our stage including… Emm Gryner, Gavin Gardiner, Irish Mythen, Oh Susanna, Jim Bryson, Julian Taylor, Wayne Petti, Gurf Morlix, Russell deCarle, Dave Bidini, Ron Hawkins, Damhnait Doyle, Matthew Barber, Alex Cuba, and many others.

With countless sold out shows over the past five years this series has always been one of Canada’s biggest supporters of singer/ songwriters. Music lovers understand that it all begins with a great song and, just like our intimate evenings full of great songs in The Temple Lounge, The Songwriter Series Virtual Music Festival will feature great songwriters doing what they do best.

The live stream will be accepting donations with net proceeds going to the Unison Benevolent Fund, a non-profit, registered charity that provides counselling and emergency relief services to the Canadian music community, and to The Songwriter Series, so the team can continue to bring great singer/songwriters to the stage.

To pre-register go to songwriterseries.ca.
