SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

The Rotary Club of Barrie will be distributing copies of Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure on Tuesday, May 2 to over 1,200 Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Grade 2 students in Barrie.
Rotary Barrie President Gary Kopp and their mascot Sprocket will visit Forest Hill Public School to deliver books to students.
Aligned with the SCDSB’s character education program, Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure is a story of a young entrepreneur named Andy who, with the help of a mysterious voice providing guidance and support, learns the value of truthfulness, fairness, goodwill and partnerships that benefit everyone involved.
The school board’s character attributes – Integrity, Responsibility, Cooperation, Caring, Respect, Optimism, Honesty, Empathy, Courage and Inclusiveness - align with Rotary’s 4 Way Test of - Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build good will and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
“We highly value our partnership with the Rotary Club of Barrie and are thankful for their generous donation to our students,” says John Dance, Superintendent of Facility Services and Human Resources (Acting), SCDSB.
“This gives the students an opportunity to learn about our community members who give their time to help others, while focusing on their literacy skills.”
This is the second year that the Rotary Club of Barrie is donating books to Grade 2 students. This year, they have extended the program from four Barrie public schools to all 25.
On May 2, members of the Rotary Club of Barrie will deliver books and read to students at:

• Codrington PS
• Cundles Heights PS
• Ferndale Woods ES
• Hillcrest PS
• Johnson Street PS
• Mapleview Heights ES
• Oakley Park PS
• Portage View PS
• Steele Street PS
