On Sunday, March 6, 2016 police conducted a R.I.D.E program throughout various areas, within the City of Barrie.

Several criminal charges were laid, resulting in vehicle impoundments and drivers licence suspensions.

 The following charges were laid:

  • A 35-year-old male from Essex was arrested and charged with impaired driving and over 80. He also received a 3-day licence suspension, and a 7-day vehicle impoundment.

  • A 43-year-old male from Barrie was arrested and charged for driving disqualified, as he was a prohibited driver for life. Further investigation determined he was breaching his recognizance, as he had not been in the company of his surety. He was later released on a promise to appear and the vehicle he had been driving was seized for 45-days.

  • A 24-year-old Barrie male operating a taxi cab approached the R.I.D.E program and upon lowering his window an enormous odour of marijuana became evident to police. The male was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and released on an appearance notice, and will appear in a Barrie court in April. A total of 8 grams of marijuana was seized.
