Each year, students from across the Simcoe County District School Board and around the world participate in the online Caribou Math Contest.

In May, Guthrie Public School Grade 2 student Graydon Knapp participated in the worldwide contest and placed first overall out of 2,946 participants.

Graydon participated in the contest along with 16 other students from Guthrie Public School.

“It was really great to see his perseverance with some of the questions, where he was almost ready to give up when he found the solution. He didn’t rush through the questions and took his time to think and solve them,” said Mrs. Therrien, teacher at Guthrie Public School. “We are so proud of Graydon and all of the other students who participated in the contest.”

The Caribou Math Contest is an online math resource and competition intended to make math fun, while also fostering a love of mathematics by motivating students to keep learning and not give up.
