Statement from County of Simcoe Paramedic Services Deputy Chief J.C.Gilbert

"On the evening of January 3, Paramedics responded to an emergency request for service to a residence in Oro-Medonte.

Paramedics provided care to four patients on the scene.

Three patients were assessed for mild hyperthermia and refused transport.

One patient was assessed to be in a life threatening condition and was treated and transported to hospital."

(OPP later confirmed that the man died at hospital.)

An autopsy will be performed tomorrow on the body of a man found in Shanty Bay.

Emergency crews were called to the shores of Lake Simcoe near Forrester Road at 4:45 this afternoon.

OPP Acting Sgt. Lynda Cranney tells BarrieToday that a man was found with vital signs absent after "working on something near the water."

The man was rushed to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre but Cranney said the man passed away.

Cranney adds OPP will issue a press release tomorrow with more details following a post mortem.

The man's identity is not being released and Cranney said foul play is not suspected at this time.
