Public Health Ontario has reported 210 new COVID-19 cases today in the July 8 daily update.
Today's update includes 231 new recoveries and four deaths.
All four deaths reported today were individuals over 79 years old.
There have been 21 new hospitalizations and three patients admitted to intensive care units since yesterday's report.
The July 8 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 1,816 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 1,841 yesterday.
- 194 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
- There are 215 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 57 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
- 145 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 35 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
- The province reported 25,857 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 0.8 per cent positivity rate.
- There are 10,081 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.1 million tests to date.
- Of the new cases reported today, 52 are from Waterloo, 18 are from Toronto, 23 cases are from Peel, 12 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, 17 are from Grey-Bruce, and four are from York Region.
- Today's cases include 56 individuals aged 19 and under, 84 people between 20 and 39 years old, 55 people between 40 and 59 years old, and 15 people between 60 and 79 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 546,621 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 535,577 recoveries and 9,228 deaths.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,677.4 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 9.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 21.3 per cent from last week.
Vaccines
- There were 268,884 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
- 16,395,063 doses of vaccine have been administered.
- In total, 6,312,906 people have been fully vaccinated.
Simcoe-Muskoka
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported six new COVID-19 cases.
There are 55 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,305 cases of COVID-19 with 11,577 of those cases recovered and 251 cases ending in death.
There are 10 people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19 related illnesses.
According to the health unit, 43 per cent of the region's adult population (aged 18 and over) have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and another 33 per cent have received one dose. The remaining 24 per cent is unvaccinated.
The weekly incidence rate in the region is 4.8 cases per 100,000, which is down by 23.8 per cent from last week.
