Sept. 14 update - Police are looking to identify and speak to vehicle operator

As a result of continued investigation and with the assistance of video surveillance, Midland Police Service are looking to identify the operator/owner of a dark grey late model Ford Focus.

This vehicle pulled into a parking lot, very close to the scene of where the cyclist was found.

Midland Police Service believe that the owner/operator of this vehicle may have witnessed what occurred with the cyclist.

We would urge the owner or operator of this vehicle to contact the Midland Police Service as we would like to speak to you as soon as possible.

If anyone has knowledge of who the owner or operator of this vehicle may be, they are asked to contact the Midland Police Service at 705 526- 2201 and make reference to incident MI16006131.

Original September 12 release - Public assistance sought, request for witnesses

On Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 at 12:21 p.m., the Midland Police Service were called to the intersection of Balm Beach Road and Sundowner Road for a report of a man on a bicycle, in the ditch on the north east corner of the intersection.

Officers and emergency services arrived on scene and located a man in the ditch face down with his bicycle.

The man suffered facial injuries and was transported to the Georgian Bay General Hospital with serious head injuries.

A 78-year-old Penetanguishene man was subsequently air lifted to Sunnybrook Trauma Centre in Toronto for advanced care and treatment.

Anyone who was in the area at this time who may have observed this man, or what might have happened is asked to contact the Midland Police Service at (705) 526-2201 and asked to make reference to incident MI16006131.
