INNISFIL - The Town of Innisfil is thrilled to announce that its ridesharing-transit system, Innisfil Transit, has been selected as the winner of the 2018 J. Robert Havlick Award for Innovation in Local Government.

This honour is given annually by the Alliance for Innovation, to further encourage innovation and recognize excellence in local government across North America. Innisfil will be presented with the award at the 2018 Transforming Local Government Conference taking place this week.

“Innisfil is such a dynamic and forward-thinking community, and in the last few years we have been acknowledged many times for our unique and fresh initiatives,“ said Innisfil CAO Jason Reynar. “We are doing something that has never been done before and I am proud of our municipality for not only tackling an issue like public transit with such a creative, out-of-the-box solution, but for also being a model of success for others across North America.”

Innisfil was chosen as the sole winner amongst numerous candidates from across Canada and the United States.

The award is only given to local governments that have shown their dedication to stretching and improving the boundaries of day-to-day government operations and practices, implementing creative business processes, and improving the civic health of the community.

The Alliance for Innovation’s annual awards program celebrates the best in local government innovation. The Alliance gives out two major awards, the J. Robert Havlick award and the Thomas H. Muehlenbeck Award for Excellence in Local Government as a way to honour and promote innovations in the field of local government.
