The City of Barrie has announced three upcoming road closures related to reconstruction and repair work.

In the first announcement, the following roads will be closed:

  • Sophia Street West between Ross Street and Bayfield Street
  • Mary Street between Wellington Street West and Ross Street
  • Maple Avenue between Wellington Street West and Ross Street

The closures are scheduled from Monday, June 24 to Tuesday, Dec. 31 as part of the city's Historic Neighbourhoods Strategy (HNS) Queen's Park A1 Neighbourhood Reconstruction Program.

Access for residents within the closure will be maintained, and emergency services will be able to respond within the closure, though they will not be able to travel through it, according to the city. The roadway will be closed to buses, however.

The work will be done by Arnott Construction and their sub-contractors on behalf of the City of Barrie.

Detours route in effect:

  • Sophia Street
    • Sophia Street - Bayfield Street – Wellington Street West – Toronto Street – Ross Street

In a second announcement, the city says Arnott Construction requires a full road closure of Ross Street between Toronto and Mary streets beginning later this month.

This work is scheduled to take place from Monday, June 24 to Monday, Aug. 5, also as part of the Queen's Park A1 neighbourhood program.

Again, access for residents within the closure will be maintained, and emergency services will be able to respond within the closure. The road will be closed to buses.

Detour route in effect: Ross Street – Toronto Street – Wellington Street West – Bayfield Street.

The city also says Eisses Brothers Excavating and its sub-contractors require a full road closure on Park Street between Parkside Drive and High Street on Wednesday, June 12, tentatively from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., subject to weather conditions, to repair water-main infrastructure.

Access for residents will be maintained and emergency services will have access to respond within the closure, according to the city.
