Registration is now open for the City of Barrie’s free online Rocket League tournament on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Game On! will also feature an ‘After Dark’ gaming event at the Five Points Theatre in the evening.

“Game On! is a truly unique event that encourages people to experience gaming through friendly, team-based competition, and connect with other members of the community to celebrate their passion for gaming,” said Steve Lee-Young, manager of recreation and culture programs.

The free online Rocket League tournament will be hosted by Ontario-based video game business We Got Game and will be streamed live on the video game platform Twitch starting at 12 p.m. on Sept. 24. The tournament is open to all ages and skill levels, and competitors are split into two age categories: 13 and under and 14-plus. Participants will also have the chance to win prizes, and advance registration is required.

The After Dark portion of the event is 19-plus and will be hosted from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Five Points Theatre. The evening will feature a cosplay mixer and mingle, hosted by SnowHawk Cosplay (with featured cosplayers onsite), and the chance to win a prize and be crowned “Barrie’s Ultimate Cosplayer 2022.”

As part of the evening, a Crash Team Racing time trial competition will take place on the PS4, with a race to get the fastest time for a chance to win a prize. The top four fastest competitors will then face off against each other in a race on the big screen for a chance at winning a prize, and the title of “Barrie’s Ultimate Racer,” hosted by local YouTube channel RekAllTheThings.

Video and board game lounge areas will also be available on site for leisurely gaming, and participants are invited to bring their own board games. Admission and participation are free, and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Game On! is hosted in partnership with the Barrie Public Library Comic Fest.
