After being closed for almost two months, the McDonald's restaurant on Bayfield Street in north Barrie is scheduled to reopen Thursday.

The restaurant, located at 446 Bayfield St., closed on Oct. 16 for "major renovations."

The company says this work includes upgrades to both the front and back of the restaurant, the new "state-of-the-art kitchen" and increased capacity.

A special grand reopening ceremony has been set for Dec. 15 when local franchisee Trevor McKee and his team will present a $12,000 cheque to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in collaboration with Scotiabank.

A ribbon-cutting will take place at noon that day with some of the restaurant's new features. There will also be appearances from McDonaldland characters
