After being given a songwriting prompt in one of her college music courses, local songwriter, Alyssa Tess, wrote her new single What Will We Remember?, based on the COVID-19 pandemic. This song is an amalgamation of thoughts and emotions that Alyssa, and surely many others, are experiencing during this time. Recorded in her makeshift bedroom studio, What Will We Remember? will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and many other music platforms on May 27, 2020.
Midhurst's Alyssa Tess is a local singer-songwriter who can be found all over Simcoe County and the GTA every summer, playing at weddings and events, busking on the streets or performing at festivals. But the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the summer plans for this Humber College music student. Alyssa released her debut EP Twenty/Twenty in 2017. The album was a strong collection of heartfelt originals that have been played on CBC radio and garnered her a fan following on social media and online music platforms. During these trying times, Alyssa Tess is reaching out to that online base with Facebook/Instagram Live performances and through the release of this new single.
Recently the music industry has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. With loss of upcoming gigs and no idea of when live music concerts will be able to start up again, artists have to find new ways to connect with their audiences and share their art. Connection, especially through music, is proving to be more important now than ever. Alyssa Tess attests to songwriting as being her saving grace during these difficult times.
“As things are starting to open up I think it’s really important that we take some time to reflect. As much as we may want it, our lives may never go back to the way we remember. I think it’s a fact of life that is more apparent now than ever before. So what will we remember when this is all said and done? What can we take from the past and this pandemic that can change how we take on the future? My hope is that we can come out of this pandemic with a little more kindness, patience and love for each other, ourselves, and our planet.” – Alyssa Tess
