LETTER: To solve homelessness, Greenbelt should be looked at

'Anyone who cares to can see and meet the unsheltered everywhere, and it’s sad. But apparently it’s not sad enough that everyone is looking for solutions,' says letter writer

The Greenbelt frenzy is misguided.

Where does logic disappear to when trying to solve problems? Housing, or more specifically a lack thereof, is an issue all over Ontario.

Anyone who cares to can see and meet the unsheltered everywhere, and it’s sad. But apparently it’s not sad enough that everyone is looking for solutions.

And we should be. Or at the very least we should be demanding that our politicians solve the problem and we should be willing to pay for it. We fund everything else all over the world, but we leave our own sleeping in the streets and tents. Why don’t we fund this problem?

I would like to urge all those who are in a rage regarding the Greenbelt being used for housing to write and/or phone and/or make appointments with any federal member of parliament and ask them where they would like the 400,000 immigrants entering our country annually to live.

And add to the question, why can we not house the people we currently have who are forced to live in shelters and tents?

Let’s start there because that’s the real problem of today, not the use of so-called Greenbelt land.
