“Money thrown at people asking on street corners” does not help prevent homelessness.

It does enable a coffee or a cool drink in summer or a hamburger and, yes, maybe a beer or a fix so one can numb the pain associated with being mentally ill, ignored, lost, dirty, depressed, addicted...

Some folks who have no place to call home also have no clean clothes, no place to leave their belongings, no bathroom to shave and wash, no confidence to even ask for help. The list goes on.

Why, oh, why are we who do have the necessities of life and education and do not have mental and intellectual barriers blame the victims of crappy upbringings, low self-esteem, hopeless expectations.

Come on, we live with so much stuff and opportunity and yet have no understanding of folks who do not fit our model of what a person should be.

We are the ones with ignorance!
