The following letter is in response to a story titled 'Proposed lakeside sports field will be hot topic at council tonight,' published May 15.

I am adding my voice as one of the Allandale residents opposed to the new sports field the city would like to build east of the Southshore Centre.

I have walked that path for nearly 30 years and it is just a wonderful taste of nature a sanctuary for all types of wildlife and for humans, too.

I see that we are losing a lot of greenspace lately due to the push to build build build. But a sports field? I feel like there are plenty of other places for a new soccer pitch. Why destroy more greenspace?

And why not spend that extra cash on addressing our homeless problem and addiction issues instead of this?

It seems like council has firmly already decided what they will do. That's disappointing.

Plenty of people are upset with our city leaders and, at this time, it is like the people really do not have a voice.
