People often leave 'treasures' along local roads rather than just taking them to the local land-transfer station. Andrew Philips/MidlandToday

MidlandToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via the website. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter is in response to a column titled Kick it from the curb. 'Your junk is not someone else's treasure', published March 19.

Thanks for posting that article.

While I am working on getting our bylaw team to be proactive, instead of just complaints-driven - we all see this stuff while driving around town - please encourage people to take a picture and email it into [email protected] so our bylaw team has a service ticket assigned and go investigate and deal with the property owner.

This is team effort and while I work on getting the team to self-initiate, we rely on the tips from our residents.

I continue to follow up on some that I feel we have not taken enough action one... aka that junkyard at the entrance to our community at 93/12. That one is way overdue for enforcement and there are a few others on my radar as well, including the couches on Yonge by 8th and many more around town.

Your article aptly points out the many options available to people.

If you can afford to have stuff, you can find the money to properly dispose of that stuff when you no longer want it.

Mayor Bill Gordon
