Huronia Symphony Orchestra

About Us

A small baroque orchestra, performing in Collier St. Church, under the direction of Oliver Balaburski, was the genesis of the present day Huronia Symphony Orchestra. Now celebrating its 51th season, the HSO is the sole community orchestra in Barrie and Simcoe County. The orchestra is comprised of 55 talented and dedicated volunteer musicians from the community and five professionals who lead the major sections. Members are drawn from all walks of life and reflect the diverse social fabric of this dynamic region.

Mission

Whereas many musical festivals in town bring in professional ensembles and soloists from outside of Barrie, only the HSO represents this community’s own high level of orchestral music making. Thus the HSO is an established cultural institution of which everyone in Simcoe County and Barrie can be proud.

Our musicians are committed to developing the worthy tradition of sharing the excitement of live orchestral performance with a widening audience. We welcome you to come and share the experience.
