Barrie police arrested a man who was allegedly threatening a downtown business owner with a gun yesterday.

On May 2 at 4:01 p.m., police say officers responded to a report of a man, possibly armed with a firearm, who had threatened a business owner on Dunlop Street East.

Police responded to the downtown area to investigate. Officers received information that the suspect had walked away from the store, heading westbound on Dunlop Street East, after making a number of threatening gestures.

A short time later, police say they located the suspect walking in the area of Maple Avenue and Ross Street. He was taken into custody without incident.

At the time of his arrest, no firearm or any other weapon was found in the suspect's possession, according to police.

The 23-year-old man, of no fixed address, was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with uttering threats of death or bodily harm.

He has been held for a bail hearing which is scheduled to take place today, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
