The following letter is in response to 'Clapperton St. residents feel 'betrayed' by committee decision,' published April 30.

With regard to the comments about NIMBYism on Clapperton Street: Most of us would not have complained if the developers had stuck to the bylaw and if the committee of adjustment had enforced it.

The proposed building exceeds the bylaw in terms of number of units and size of the building. It provides less parking than the bylaw requires and less green space. A building that the developers claim to be promoted to families provides no play area for children, and will be a walk-up.

It just doesn’t make sense.

If they had stuck to a six-unit building with green space and adequate parking as allowed in the bylaws, there would have been fewer complaints.

I find it shocking that the committee of adjustment would agree to cramming such a large building on such a small lot in the middle of a neighbourhood that has been designated historic.

This is not NIMBYism. It’s only common sense.
