Legacy Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. knows you have a choice in Barrie when planning a funeral or cremation service. Today the owners of Legacy provide tips on how to find the best one for your needs.

Matt and Cindy Drury opened Legacy in 2020 after spending more than two decades in the funeral profession. For the last 12 years, Matt has served families in Barrie. He knows and loves the community and its people.

“I wanted to offer families a more personal service that is more affordable than some other choices,” Matt explains. “As an independent organization, we have no obligations to sell product, or put any pressure on families. Here you can take your time. We respect your budget and that you are grieving.”

The Drurys' tips for choosing a funeral home or cremation establishment include:

Work with an establishment that is familiar with, and invested in, your community.

Work with an establishment where you feel comfortable, be it a corporately owned franchise or a small facility. Ultimately it is about honouring the life lost and the grief of the family. Go where your needs are best served.

Work with an establishment that has a variety of options at all price points, including eco-burial, celebrations of life, and the incorporation of cultural traditions.

Work with an establishment that can connect you with grief resources in the city. Grief has no timeline. A funeral professional’s work is not done when the service is over. They continue to care for your family as you grieve the loss.

Legacy Funeral Home strives to provide a new option for families in Barrie.

“We are very big on allowing families to put together their own services,” says Matt. “Traditional, celebration of life, religious, cultural – we personalize as much or as little as the family likes. We recently had a graveside service and reception; we served the meal right at the cemetery because that is what the family wanted.”

Legacy is also about full transparency. Matt says, “It’s easier to shop prices because funeral establishments are required to have their pricelist on their website, however we have included a number of items in our prices that other funeral homes have as add-ons. I would encourage people to visit the funeral home as well, talk to them, get a feel for the staff and make sure they are dealing with a licensed funeral director.”

During ongoing COVID challenges, Legacy understands there are times where gathering restrictions and other factors must be considered. Matt and Cindy run a very open, agile operation to ensure the safety of guests while still tailoring each funeral or cremation to the family’s needs.

Matt concludes, “We are very professional, personable, approachable, and we have experience. We look after families very well.”
