Looking for a cure for the January blahs?

Come out to Rainbow Riot: A Comedy Night Supporting 2SLGBTQ+ Youth!

“Rainbow Riot is a vibrant and empowering comedy fundraiser dedicated to supporting the Gilbert Centre’s 2SLGBTQ+ Youth Program,” explained Jay from Unicorn Feather Community Media, which is planning the event.

The Gilbert Centre’s 2SLGBTQ+ Youth Program provides essential resources, safe spaces, and mental health support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in the Barrie and Simcoe County area.

“The event aims to celebrate diversity, raise awareness about the challenges faced by 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and foster a sense of community through the universal language of laughter,” Jay completed.

Rainbow Riot will feature five incredible comedians (three trans, one non-binary and one two-spirit performer) who will share their perspectives through humour and storytelling. The night will be a chance for the community to get together, to learn, and to give back to the Gilbert Centre and its valuable programming.

"Laughter is the ultimate act of resistance and resilience,” Jay added. “By attending Rainbow Riot, you’re not just enjoying a hilarious night of comedy—you’re standing in solidarity with 2SLGBTQ+ youth, as net proceeds go directly to programs supporting their well-being and success."

Rainbow Riot isn’t just a comedy show—it’s a chance to make a meaningful difference.

Hollywood Jade from Canada's Drag Race, is going to host the Rainbow Riot Comedy Event on January 25th, 2025.

“It’s about celebrating the strength and authenticity of the 2SLGBTQ+ community while raising crucial funds to support young people who need safe and inclusive spaces,” explained Jay. “We invite everyone to come, laugh, and be part of this unforgettable night that combines humor with a powerful cause. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community!”

Rainbow Riot takes place on January 25 at 8 p.m. at the Five Points Theatre in Barrie.

General admission is priced at $24.99 to $34.99 per person. Given the theatre’s limited seating capacity of 200 people, the organizers ask the community to get tickets early, here

Jay urged, “Join us in celebrating diversity and supporting the Gilbert Centre’s 2SLGBTQ+ Youth Program. This would be a great Christmas present, giving laughter while helping others!”
