Two people killed in five-vehicle Highlands East Township crash

Eastbound vehicle crossed centre line, colliding with four of seven westbound motorcycles



MINDEN - On Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 5:05 p.m., members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police attended the scene of a serious multi-vehicle collision on Highway 118 between Trappers Trail and Essonville Line in Highlands East Township.  

A collision resulted when an eastbound motor vehicle crossed the center line into the west bound lane where it collided with four of seven motorcycles travelling westbound.

As a result of the collision two persons received fatal injuries and two other persons received serious life threatening injuries.  

Members of the Central Region Technical Collision Investigation unit attended the collision scene to assist Haliburton Highlands OPP members with the investigation.  

Highway 118 was closed at this location for several hours while the collision was investigated. Traffic was diverted at Paynes Road East and Paynes Road West. Highway 118 was reopened in both directions following the investigation
