OPP investigating suspicious barn fire

ADJALA-TOSORONTIO TOWNSHIP - On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers from the Nottwasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), assisted by the Adjala-Tosorontio Fire Department, responded to a structure fire on County Road 50 between 25 Sideroad and 30 Sideroad of Adjala-Tosorontio Township. 

When officers arrived, a large barn was found to be fully engulfed in flames. Members from the Adjala-Tosorontio Fire Department were working to extinguish the fire while police made confirmation that the barn was abandoned with no livestock inside.

Officers canvassed neighbouring residences and were given information that 4-5 youths had been observed running from the barn prior to the fire being reported.

Following that information, members from the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit were requested. They attended the scene and conducted a track.

The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office has been notified and the Adjala-Tosorontio Fire Department and the Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit will be continuing with the investigation. The scene is still being held by the Nottawasaga OPP.
