Eight drivers charged with impaired driving in week one of Festive R.I.D.E.

South Simcoe Police Traffic officers have been conducting Festive R.I.D.E. programs for the past week in both Innisfil and Bradford. During the first week of R.I.D.E. programs, officers stopped 1,000 vehicles and performed 55 roadside tests and one drug evaluation test.

As a result of these roadside tests, eight drivers were arrested and charged with impaired / over 80 mgs. These drivers all face Criminal Code charges and had their vehicles automatically impounded for seven days and were given a 90-day licence suspension.

Six drivers were handed three-day roadside suspensions. One driver was on his second suspension and was given a seven-day road side suspension. These drivers were all in the warn range.

  • five drivers were arrested for drug possession
  • one driver was charged with driving with open liquor
  • one driver was charged for driving while already suspended
  • four drivers were charged with Highway Traffic Act offences
  • two young drivers were charged with having more than zero Blood Alcohol Concentration
  • one young driver was given a 24-hour licence suspension

Officers will continue to be out all season long looking for drivers who are impaired by drug or alcohol.

There is no excuse for drinking and driving. YOU always have an option. Make the right decision. Call a friend, call a taxi or ride service, or just stay over. Please don't drink and drive!

The Festive R.I.D.E. program continues until early January 2018.
