A serious motor vehicle collision has closed a long stretch of Essa Road indefinitely to start the long weekend.
Barrie police officers were called to the scene in the city's south end at 2:24 p.m., Friday.
Peter Leon, the police department's communications co-ordinator, says one person suffered serious injuries.
“A lone female occupant was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre where she is suffering from life-threatening injuries,” Leon said.
The Barrie Police Traffic Unit remains on scene investigating.
Essa Road, between Athabaska Road to County Road 27, is closed indefinitely.
