In early June of 2016 the Barrie Police Service Fraud Unit received a complaint from the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) regarding nearly $40,000 in funds stolen by a suspect, who had not been identified at the time.

Investigation revealed the funds had been stolen by a woman; the daughter of a deceased woman who had passed away in January of 2013.

The accused had been continually withdrawing funds from her mother’s bank account. Further investigation found that the accused had also defrauded Ontario Works of several thousand dollars through receipt of social assistance which she was not entitled to.

On Wednesday, September 28, 2016 the 32-year-old Barrie woman was arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

She will appear in a Barrie court in November.
