Vehicle stop results in multiple charges

The vehicle matched the description of a suspect vehicle involved in a theft in Midhurst last month

On Wednesday Dec. 20 2017 at 11:24 a.m., police were travelling eastbound on Wellington Street West in the City of Barrie and observed a white Chevrolet Impala travelling westbound. The vehicle matched the description of a suspect vehicle involved in a theft of a generator in Midhurst approximately one month prior.

The vehicle was stopped and police located a male driver and a female passenger in the vehicle. The initial investigation revealed the male was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, and breach of recognizance. The male was placed under arrest on the strength of the warrant and the following was located on the male and in the vehicle he was driving:

  1. two small plastic bags containing a white hard substance, believed to be crack cocaine
  2. a clear plastic bag of cannabis marijuana 
  3. a kinder egg wrapped in electrical tape with cannabis marijuana inside 
  4. a quantity of cannabis marijuana loose
  5. a crack pipe containing a quantity of crack cocaine
  6. a 6" bladed knife
  7. a magnitude of break and enter instruments

Once the male was lodged in the police vehicle, he attempted to ditch another clear white bag of suspected crack cocaine in the back seat. The male was bound by previous probation orders and recognizance which included conditions not to be with the female in the passenger seat. 

The 36-year-old Wasaga Beach male was charged with:

  • Possession of controlled substance - cocaine
  • Possession of controlled substance- marijuana
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with recognizance x2
  • Fail to comply with probation x2
