Toronto-area women arrested in Tanger Outlet Mall theft

Suspects face more than two dozen charges each

South Simcoe Police Service have laid a total of 26 charges against two GTA women following a shoplifting incident at the Tanger Outlets in Innisfil.

On Nov. 2, 2019 around 9 p.m.,South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to Tanger Outlets Cookstown on Highway 89 after a loss prevention officer reported the theft of a large quantity of clothes.

The loss prevention officer had attempted to arrest two suspects who resisted and managed to escape in a vehicle. Acting on information from the scene, police subsequently stopped the suspect vehicle on Highway 400 at Canal Road in Bradford.

Two women in the vehicle were arrested without incident. A large quantity of clothes valued at several thousand dollars from numerous stores at Tanger Outlets was recovered in addition to clothing that belonged to stores not at the mall. A large quantity of decorative jewelry was also located from an unknown store. Police seized tools used to thwart security measures on merchandise.

As a result of investigation, a 54-year-old Mississauga woman and 38-year-old North York woman are facing a total of 26 charges:

  • 10 counts of theft
  • 10 counts of possession of property obtained by crime 
  • 2 counts of Resist Arrest
  • 2 counts of Escape Lawful Custody
  • 2 counts of Mischief to Property    

The accused were released with future court dates.
