Two charged in unrelated break-and-enter investigations

Both occurrences happened in Penetanguishene

PENETANGUISHENE - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to two separate break and enter occurrences recently resulting in the culprits being apprehended and charged. 

Firstly, officers were dispatched to a Peel Street home to a report of a break and enter in progress at 9:02 p.m. Aug. 22, 2019. Attending officers located and arrested Jarrod Smith, 50 years old of Tiny Township, and upon completing their investigation charged him with the following charges contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Fail to comply with probation order

He was released from police custody on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Oct. 17, 2019.

Secondly, officers responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a Poyntz Street home at 11:09 p.m. Aug. 21, 2019. Attending officers located and arrested Tyler Charlebois, 23 years old of Penetanguishene, and upon completing their investigation charged him with the following charges contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada
  • Trespassing at night
  • Mischief under $ 5,000
  • Being intoxicated in public place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario

He was released from police custody on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Oct. 10, 2019.
