Two charged in stolen dump trucks investigation

One of the accused is a 75-year-old Toronto man, other a 46-year-old from Brampton

SPRINGWATER TWP. - Since 2017, members of the Ontario Provincial Police including Road Safety Transit have worked collaboratively with multiple police service jurisdictions, including Barrie Police Service (BPS), Peel Regional Police, and Halton Police Service investigating ongoing thefts of dump trucks and chassis trucks.

Police investigation revealed multiple suspects involved in the ongoing thefts. On June 1, 2019, BPS and PRP arrested two accused parties in relation to these incidents. The accused parties were received by Huronia West OPP on July 6, 2019.

Cecil Young, 75 years old, of Toronto has been arrested and charged with: 

  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Theft of motor vehicle (two counts)

Ian Mitchell, 46 years old, of Brampton has been arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Theft of motor vehicle (two counts)

The accused parties were held for bail hearings at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
