Two charged in cottage break and enter investigation

GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with members of the Central Region Crime Unit have charged two area youths in relation to a cottage break and enter with mischief reported in October 2016.

The cottage, located on an island in Gloucester Pool, was forcibly entered and significant damage was done to the interior of the uninhabited structure in September 2016.

As a result of a Police investigation an 18-year-old male of Severn Township has been charged with the following offences as a Young Person in relation to the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA):

  • Break and enter to a dwelling house Section 348(1) (b)
  • Mischief - destroying property Section 430(1) (a)
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000

Also charged is a 20-year-old male from Penetanguishene with (adult) break and enter to a dwelling house Section 348(1) (b)

Both accused males were arrested and released on a promise to appear with an undertaking before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
