Barrie police charged two people with impaired driving Tuesday after complaints from concerned citizens.
A vehicle was located across the end of a driveway on Farmingdale Crescent shortly after 2:30 p.m. The driver was not conscious when the citizen approached, and police said there were obvious signs of impairment.
The man was arrested and taken to headquarters for a breathalyzer test, which determined he had nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The 37-year-old Barrie man was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). He was released from custody and has a May 17 court date in Barrie.
At 10:18 p.m., Tuesday, police responded to the report of a vehicle that had been driven on St. Vincent Street, left the road and ended up in a ditch just off of Stonehart Lane. The driver fled on foot, but police say they located him nearby.
Police said the 36-year-old Barrie man had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. He was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). He was released from custody and is set to appear May 3 in Barrie court.
Both vehicles were impounded for seven days, and the accused had their driver’s licences suspended for 90 days.
