Traffic complaint leads to impaired charge in Essa

ESSA TWP. – On March 31, 2020, at approximately 6:19 p.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint for a possible impaired driver in the area of County Road 27 near 20th Sideroad in the Township of Essa.  

Officers attended the area, located the motor vehicle and the driver was subsequently arrested.  

Robert Tracy, 38 years old, of New Tecumseth, has been charged with the following offences:  

  • HTA 69(1) Improper Tire - Damage to Highway,  
  • HTA 180 Litter on a Highway,  
  • CC 320.14(1)(a) Operation while Impaired - alcohol,  
  • CC 264.1(1)(a) Uttering Threats - Cause Bodily Harm or Death,  
  • CC 430(4) Mischief - Interfere with lawful use of property,    
  • CC 430(4) Mischief - Interfere with lawful use of property,  
  • CC 270(1)(a) Assault a Peace Officer,  
  • CC 320.14(1)(b) Operation while Impaired - BAC over .80

The driver was also issued a 90-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice today by video and was remained into custody pending a future bail hearing.

Zero tolerance will be given to any person who threatens officers of exposure to COVID-19 through coughing, spitting or any other means. Charges will be laid at the direction of the Crown office. The safety of our officers remains a top priority. The Nottawasaga OPP would like to express gratitude to members of the public who assisted in reporting this impaired driver. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver by either alcohol or drug is encouraged to call 911 and report it.
