Toronto man drowns in Severn’s Sparrow Lake

Members of the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have responded to a drowning on Sparrow Lake, Severn Township.

On July 6, 2021, shortly after 3 p.m., emergency services responded to an urgent call reporting that a male had failed to surface after swimming in Deep Bay, near a cottage in Severn Township.

Witnesses were able to get the male to shore and administer first-aid until County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) arrived and took over life-saving efforts.

Tragically, Roland Jonker, age 76, from Toronto, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
