Theft of charity box

On October 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. an officer patrolling in the area of Mapleton Plaza located at 480 Mapleton Avenue, Barrie was  flagged down by a 78-year-old gentlemen who wanted to report a theft of a charity box belonging to the Barrie Food Bank that he was responsible for.

The Barrie Food Bank donation box is in the parking lot of the above plaza. Patrons can make a monetary donation in exchange for selecting a pumpkin. When the gentlemen went to check the donation box he saw that the box appeared to be pried open and the money inside was missing. He told the officer that there were two young boys hanging around the donation box for the last hour.

When police located the two youths, a 15-year-old from Essa Township and a 16-year-old from Barrie they both admitted to stealing the money inside the donation box.

Both males were charged with Mischief Under $5000.00 and Possession of Stolen Property.

The money was returned to the gentlemen so that it may go to the Barrie Food Bank. All $40 dollars stolen was returned.
