Thornton man suffers 'life-altering' injuries in crash, charged with impaired driving

Police say driver lost control, struck a pole, causing vehicle to roll several times into a field in Victoria Day weekend crash

INNISFIL - A 24-year-old Thornton man has been charged with impaired driving-related offences and dangerous driving following a single-vehicle rollover collision in Innisfil on the Victoria Day long weekend.

The collision occurred at 5 p.m. on holiday Monday, May 20, 2019 on 10 Sideroad between 4th Line and 5th Line.

A northbound Acura travelling at a high rate of speed lost control, struck a utility pole and then rolled several times before coming to a stop in a field. 

A 24-year-old Thornton man who was the sole occupant of the vehicle was transported to a Toronto trauma by Ornge air ambulance. He suffered life-altering injuries.

On Thursday, August 8, 2019, following a detailed investigation by the Traffic Unit, the man was charged with impaired operation, over 80 and dangerous operation.  He has a court date in September.
