Teen robbed of shoes, wallet Sunday night near Algonquin Ridge school

'Hopefully, this isn’t a trend we start to see,' says police official

A robbery last night has city police searching for two suspects and hoping the assault isn’t a trend.

Barrie police received a call at 9:09 p.m., Sunday, about a teenager who had been robbed in the area of Algonquin Ridge Elementary School on Golden Meadow Road, near Hurst Drive.

The teen told police he had been punched and knocked down after two people came out of the wooded area near the school.

The suspects stole victim's red Jordan 1 running shoes and his wallet, which contained money.

One of suspects was wearing a black face mask and a black Nike hoodie.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday the victim sustained injuries in the robbery.

It has been a while since Leon has heard of a shoe theft in the city.

“It has been quite some time since I have heard of an occurrence where someone has had their footwear stolen. Certainly, we have heard of this in the past, but I don’t recall in recent times where something like that has happened,” he said.

“Hopefully, this isn’t a trend we start to see.”

Leon said the shoes are very expensive and “replacing them won’t be easy for any family.”

Anyone with information that could help identify the suspects is asked to call Barrie Police at (705)725-7025 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
