Teen charged after Midland high school locked down

Thursday incident leads to serious charges

Investigators have charged a 15-year-old male in connection to this incident. The identity of the male can not be disclosed and is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Charges are as follows:
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Possession of imitation weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.

MIDLAND - Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay detachment were called to investigate a serious allegation at a Midland high school on Nov. 28, 2019.  The school was placed on a lockdown shortly before noon while police responded to the call for service.  

Two youth suspects were arrested shortly after at a location off of school property. One youth will be facing Criminal Code charges. Police also seized one pellet gun. The lockdown was lifted after the suspect was arrested and police determined that it was safe for staff and students to return to normal activities. There were no injuries.  

Police investigation into this matter is ongoing and information on charges will be updated when it becomes available. The Simcoe County District School Board will be sending a letter to families regarding the incident.
