An Essa Township man has been charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop Tuesday night in Alliston.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on March 11, Nottawasaga OPP says officers were on patrol on Victoria Street East when they saw a vehicle weaving over the centre line and being driven at inconsistent speeds.
The driver then attempted to make a left turn on a red light at the intersection of Victoria Street and County Road 10, police stated in a news release.
During a traffic stop, police allege a "strong odour" of alcohol was detected on the driver’s breath, and the driver had delayed responses to an officer’s commands.
While looking for his vehicle documents, police say the driver got out and was "swaying and unsteady on his feet."
Back at the detachment, police say the accused provided the first suitable breath sample. When officers attempted to the conduct the second breath sample, police say the accused would no longer comply.
Cooper Martin, 30, of Essa Township, has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
The accused has an April 10 court date in Bradford.
A 90-day driver's licence suspension was also issued and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
