Suspect still at large following east-end Barrie stabbing Saturday

Police say the two men knew each other; Interaction between two individuals began at Simcoe Plaza and continued at nearby residence

While the search is still on for the male suspect following a stabbing incident in Barrie's east end on Saturday, police are saying the two people knew each other.

On Monday, Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that while the investigation is ongoing, there is more information about the stabbing that was said to have happened at the Simcoe Plaza on the weekend.

“We’re finding out now that there was an altercation between the two individuals at the plaza, but the stabbing occurred at the residence of the victim,” said Leon. “The man who was stabbed is at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is set to be there for a few days.”

Police received a call at 5:03 p.m., Saturday, about a 36-year-old man who had been stabbed at a location near the intersection of Blake and Johnson streets.

Leon also said the two men were “known to each other, but not very well.”

The investigation is ongoing by Barrie police.
