Barrie police are searching for a suspect following a knifepoint robbery at Duckworth and Grove streets last night.

City police say they responded to a reported robbery at a variety store shortly before 11 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Police say an unknown male, who was in the store just before it closed, approached the counter and, armed with two edged weapons, demanded cash.

The on-duty clerk complied with the request and the suspect fled on foot in a northerly direction with an undisclosed amount of currency, according to police.

A canine track was conducted after police established a perimeter, but the suspect was able to elude capture, police say.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 20 to 28 years of age, standing six-foot-one with a slim build. He had what appeared to be long- or medium-length brown hair showing out the front of his hat.

He was wearing an off-white mask over his face, a grey beanie-style hat that was covered by a black hoodie pulled up over his head that was underneath a red and black plaid jacket, white "well-worn" Nike running shoes with what appear to be pink-coloured laces and black pants.

Police are asking any witnesses, or anyone who recognizes the description of the suspect, to call 705-725-7025, ext. 2129.
