On Oct.13, 2017 at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of vehicles being entered on Old Mill Road in Essa Township.

It was reported that two suspects were seen fleeing into the bush from Old Mill Road after entering a vehicle that was located in a driveway.

Uniformed officers attended the area and were assisted by members of the Central Region OPP Canine Unit. Shortly after the arrival of the officers, a white Chevrolet Cruze approached their location on Old Mill Road. The vehicle was stopped and it was determined that the vehicle was stolen and that the individuals in the vehicle were the suspects involved in the vehicle entries.

Five youths were located in the vehicle and were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

The youths were released from custody with a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

"This crime spree was completely preventable. We continually warn people to lock their cars and keep their vehicles and valuables secure. The public are reminded that they need to participate with crime prevention programs in order for them to work and stop crime before it occurs," says Staff Sergeant Brian Humber of the Nottawasaga OPP.
