ORO-MEDONTE - On Wednesday, June 21, 2107 at approximately 8:05 p.m., a member of the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 400 north of County Road 93, in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

A motor vehicle was observed to be traveling at 146 km/h in the 100km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer spoke to the lone male driver of the 2003 Volvo. 

After investigation it was determined that Declan O'Bryne, age 58 of Aurora, Ont., was (allegedly) impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and charged with care or control of a motor vehicle while having over 80mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood, and care or control while ability impaired by alcohol contrary to Sections 253(1) (a) and (b) of the Criminal Code.

The 90-day Administrative Driver's License Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and the driver's vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Monday, July 17, 2017.
