Driver clocked doing 165 in an 80 km/h zone north of Barrie

Update: OPP issued a release Thursday morning correcting the information that had been provided. Police now allege the driver was doing 165 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

MIDLAND - A member of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on traffic patrol at 8:43 a.m. Aug. 21, 2019 of Highway 93 observed a white Subaru travelling at a high rate of speed.

The officer was able to safety stop the southbound vehicle after obtaining a clock of 165 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone.

Charged is Zachary Hoy 23 years old of Midland, with the following driving offences:

  • Race a motor vehicle - Excessive Speed
  • Speeding 50+ Km/h over posted limit

Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

His vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days along with his driver's licence that has been suspended for 7 days under the conditions of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and he will be appearing before the Ontario Provincial Offences court in Penetanguishene at a future date.
