The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 79-year-old woman today in Barrie.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 25, Barrie police officers attended an apartment building on Kozlov Street to check on the well-being of a woman. Officers made their way to a unit on the 10th floor.
A short time later, the officers were made aware that a woman was lying on the ground outside of the building, according to the SIU. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. Anyone who may have video evidence related to this incident to upload that video can upload it through the SIU website.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
