Single-vehicle crash leads to drug trafficking charges for duo

Vehicle, with two occupants, crashed into ditch in Essa Township, prompting an investigation by police that led to multiple charges

The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision that led to drug charges for two people.

On June 23, 2022, at approximately 1 p.m., police responded to reports of a single vehicle collision into a ditch with two occupants. The incident occurred in the area of 11th Line in Essa Township.

Police arrived on scene and entered an investigation. As a result, two people were arrested and charged.

Robert Brown, 39, of no fixed address was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Fail to comply probation order
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

Casandra Michael, 35, of no fixed address was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid

The accused was released and scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on July 28, 2022.
