City police are treating an elderly man's death as accidental after he reportedly fell out of a window at an east-end seniors complex this morning.

Barrie Manor assistant general manager Diana Boyes confirmed there was a fatality at the Blake Street facility this morning, but declined further comment.

"Victim services has asked us not to release any information at this time," she told BarrieToday. "Unfortunately, I've been told to be quiet. The family has requested that we not say anything further."

However, Boyes confirmed a media report that indicated an 89-year-old man died after falling from a second-floor window. Earlier this morning, she told CTV News that he had been admitted on Thursday after being released from hospital; he had been in extreme pain and his family was unable to care for him.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays said officers responded to the Blake Street address shortly before 7 a.m., Friday.

"Upon arrival, one person was confirmed deceased," she said. "At this point, the investigation is ongoing, but there's nothing to suggest anything suspicious. It's believed the death was accidental."

Mays couldn't confirm that the death was related to a fall.
