Second vehicle rally parks itself in Barrie at Georgian Mall

Similar event took place May 6 in Bayfield Mall parking lot; Barrie police not releasing details on last night's gathering until Monday

A second unsanctioned truck rally descended on Barrie this weekend, this time at Georgian Mall in the city's north end.

Details on Saturday night’s event at Georgian Mall are scarce. City police officials told BarrieToday they won’t be releasing any information about the incident until Monday. BarrieToday will have more information as it becomes available.

A similar event took place on May 6 just down the street in the Canadian Tire parking lot at Bayfield Mall, closer to Highway 400. That gathering saw between 500 and 600 vehicles and more than 700 people in attendance. Dozen of charges were laid.

Officers from the Barrie police traffic unit were aided by the South Simcoe Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police attended last month’s event and ultimately laid just more than two dozen Highway Traffic Act charges and seized one vehicle for stunt driving for something done on Bayfield Street.

Police officials also reported thousands of dollars in damages done to the parking lot and were investigating a fail-to-remain motor vehicle collision that took place in the area of Bayfield Street and Coulter Street on the evening of the May 6 rally, which had been described on TikTok as “rowdy” and expected to be a “banger.”
